They cleared the orchard years ago. Took the sweet ones, left the rest to rot. But one apple never stopped watching the door — swelling, souring, growing something that looks back.
his n4me is ████. we call it Ori.
"It doesn't roll when you push it.
It doesn't bruise when you drop it.
It just turns its face toward you — and smiles."
bruised gold at the crown. curdles down into wet black. rot spreads like fingerprints — nobody touched it. it did that on its own.
two hollow sockets. nothing behind them — and yet they follow the room. whatever lived in there left the lights ████
a jagged maw. pale needle teeth that never line up. it doesn't open to speak. it opens to remind you it can.
a crescent torn from the right. edges green with mold. if the orchard was empty — who took the first bite? and why stop at █?
the rare morning the rot recedes, skin flushes red again. something good is coming. it never lasts.
his resting face. the default state. eyes hollow, mouth open, patient. this is the one you'll meet.
once in a blue moon the whole apple turns bruised gold, glows from inside. nobody agrees what it means. everybody remembers it.
Ori is the apple the market forgot. Fallen from a tree that no longer exists, in an orchard that everyone abandoned when the harvest went bad.
He does not ripen the way fruit is supposed to. He festers — slowly, deliberately, with the patience of something that has watched a thousand people walk out the door and never come back.
"Not every apple is sweet.
But the rotten one remembers your face."
Some say if you sit in the empty orchard long enough, you'll hear him breathing under the floorboards. Most people don't sit that long. Ori doesn't mind. He has time. He is, after all, still ripening.
